Tim Benda is a doctoral student in computer and information science at the Graduate School of Advanced Technology and Enterprising (GATE), specializing in informatics. Through the GATE research school, Tim’s doctoral studies are fully funded.

Tim earned his master’s degree in marketing at Linnaeus University in 2021. He also has five years of experience working as an administrator, where his duties included data analysis, project management, and strategic planning.

Research

His research focuses on dark data, specifically underutilized information resources collected in software systems. Such as server logs from ERP and CRM platforms, IoT sensor streams, transaction logs in legacy databases, and user event data in applications that accumulate without analysis despite their structured or semi-structured form.

Through GATE's focus on technology and collaboration with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Småland, Tim investigates how dark data contributes to inefficiencies during technical paradigm shifts.

He explores informatics-driven methods to discover, process, and activate this hidden resource, aiming to improve decision-making, competitive advantages, and sustainable innovation for regional businesses.
