Sharing is Caring – A Thesis on Stage
The doctoral thesis by Emelie Lantz was interpreted at Linnaeus University’s Academic Ceremony on 30 January 2026 in Växjö, where Regionteatern Blekinge Kronoberg presented a staged performance during the evening banquet.
- The staged performance emerged following an interview with Emelie, during which I asked what conclusions she had reached, what discoveries she had made, and what had surprised her the most.
The performance is an interpretation of what she has written—a small fragment of something much larger, says Saskia Husberg, actor at Regionteatern Blekinge Kronoberg, who was responsible for the direction and concept.

About the Thesis
Part-time firefighters are a vital resource for societal safety, particularly in rural areas where distances are long and access to other resources is limited. In Sweden, part-time firefighters make up the majority of rescue service personnel and are often first on the scene in accidents and acute medical emergencies. They have strong local ties and combine their role with other employment, which places demands on support from both primary employers and family members.
The thesis highlights response times, recruitment challenges, employers’ perspectives, and the experiences of part-time firefighters and their families. The conclusion is that sustained preparedness and a sense of safety in society depend on shared commitment and close collaboration between rescue services, employers, and families.
