IMS annual colloquium Kay O'Halloran

IMS: A Well‑Attended Annual Colloquium 2026

The theme of this year’s Colloquium in Malmö was research applications. The programme offered both dedicated time for individual project development and valuable input from the Grants Innovation Office at Linnaeus University. Around 30 researchers and doctoral students participated in the well‑attended event.

William Kutz from the Grants Innovation Office at Linnaeus University visited and delivered a talk entitled “Overview of Funding Opportunities and Strategies for Researchers at Different Career Stages”, covering everything from small private funders to large consortium-based EU applications. The programme also included a session on “Looking Up and Ahead: Larger Grant Proposals (e.g., RJ Program, ERC) – Research Ideas and Strategies”, followed by a writing game for developing ideas, group discussions on strategic approaches, and open discussions.

A highlight of the IMS Colloquium was the lecture by Professor Kay O’Halloran from the University of Liverpool. Well known to the centre, she presented “Multimodal AI Approaches to Research” and also offered a masterclass for the doctoral students.

- Gathering in this informal way, yet with a consistently ambitious programme, plays a crucial role in strengthening both the development of our researchers and the evolution of our research activities, says Jørgen Bruhn, leader of the Centre.
- The researchers at the Centre place great value on participating, and we are also pleased to introduce a new cluster, Mediated Affects across Artistic Media (IMS Affect).
