New ESO report on the labour market situation for people with disabilities
In a new ESO report, Magnus Carlsson at Linnaeus University, together with Stefan Eriksson (Uppsala University) and Dan-Olof Rooth (Stockholm University), shows that people with disabilities constitute a major untapped resource in the Swedish labour market.
The report Working life for all? describes how many in the group have lower incomes, higher unemployment and weaker labour market ties than the rest of the population, but also how assistive devices, adaptations and more flexible working methods can increase the opportunities for work.
The report was presented at the ESO seminar A Resource to Be Reckoned With – The Labour Market for People with Disabilities, held in Stockholm on 28 April 2026. The seminar brought together researchers, government representatives, employer representatives and civil society to discuss how the labour market can become more inclusive and what reforms are needed to strengthen employment among people with disabilities.
