Health Data Sweden extended for three years as a European Digital Innovation Hub
The digital innovation hub Health Data Sweden (HDS) has been granted an extension within the EU’s Digital Europe programme. With total funding of SEK 50 million, HDS will continue its work to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises as well as the public sector in developing their digital maturity in health data. Linnaeus University is one of the Swedish higher education institutions that is part of HDS.
“The decision confirms that Sweden is a key player in Europe’s efforts to use data and AI for better health and welfare. The next phase is about scaling up – enabling more companies, regions, municipalities, and healthcare providers to benefit from the infrastructure and knowledge we have built,” says Sebastiaan Meijer, project coordinator for Health Data Sweden and professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
During its first three years, Health Data Sweden has established a strong national ecosystem that brings together leading actors from across Sweden to jointly strengthen Swedish and European life science. By combining technical expertise, innovation services, and funding advice, hundreds of companies and organizations have received support to develop, test, and improve products, services, and business processes with a focus on digital maturity in health data.
With the new funding, HDS can accelerate and enhance the offering of tailored services that support companies and organizations throughout the entire innovation journey – from idea to finished product or service.
At Linnaeus University, the eHealth Institute hosts HDS. Here, a unique interdisciplinary knowledge environment exists where research, education, and collaboration with societal actors contribute to creating a sound and purposeful use of eHealth.“The extension opens doors to a European ecosystem of knowledge, collaborations, and innovation opportunities. Linnaeus University is proud to be part of HDS Next Level,” says Tora Hammar, Associate Professor and Director of the eHealth Institute at Linnaeus University.
