Medial Conditions for Social Bonding in Singing

This week Lea Wierød, affiliated post-doc at IMS, will present a working paper on "Medial Conditions for Social Bonding in Singing".
Quote from Wierød:
"In this seminar, I present for discussion a work-in-progress text dealing with the question of how singing is capable of affording social bonding among singers. A vast amount of empirical research shows that this is the case, but the question of how this bonding effect comes into being, or what it is about singing that facilitates it, is rarely addressed. I proceed from the assumption that an essential premise for investigating this question is that singing consists of two primary medialities, words and music, both of which can facilitate social bonding but their conditions for doing so are very different."
